Bexar Savings—Buck and Bill

Bexar Savings—Buck and Bill (We're in the Money!)

Bexar Savings—Buck and Bill (Mac Tonight)

Situation:       Once upon a time, Savings and Loans were abundant in Texas and across the nation. In San Antonio, none were more abundant than Bexar Savings. It wasn’t that they had an abundance of locations. They only had one. But they they did have a large amount of the cash on hand. So much so, in fact, they could afford to go without FSLIC insurance from the government. They didn’t need no stinkin’ insurance. They were that good. In San Antonio, there were Where the Smart Money is Going. And they could afford advertising on a scale that other financial institutions could only dream about—which is why I wrote these fantastical television commercials.

Unfortunately, the Savings and Loan crisis of the 1980’s occurred. Ironically, as immense as this debacle was, it wouldn’t have touched Bexar Savings. Again, they were that good. Unfortunately for Bexar Savings, they got strong-armed by the federal government into becoming “F-S-L-I-C-ED” and taking on other failing Savings and Loans to help prop them up—and they all went under before these commercials could be produced. Think Busby Berkeley. Think We’re In The Money!  Think “Golddiggers of 1933” meets “Mac Tonight.” They were that good!
